Kate Greenaway was a famous English artist and children's book-illustrator. I happened to find a fabulous rare coloring book with her illustrations published around 1950 by Red Farm Studio.
It is quite a find! The name of the collection is "Kim's Kate Greenaway Coloring Book". It is housed in the original pictorial cardboard box and is the original oversized 19" X 12" stapled coloring booklet.
This coloring book is in pristine condition, no tears, bends, folds or markings. The cardboard box is worn at one of the corners of the lid, otherwise great condition.
Fantastic find! Great collectible!

ReplyDeleteI have the same coloring beek here except it has not been touched by color...
ReplyDeleteI had one of these coloring books when I was a kid. We bought it at a state park gift shop. This would not be in the 50's though. More like the 70's.
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe this was from the 60's or 70's as well since I was born in 65 and I got one of these as a kid however my Grandmother bought it from a garage sale and so it has 2 price tags on it. The original Sticker asking $3.20 and the garage sale price of $5.00. Since she gave this to me when I was around 5 this would have put it made 70's or before. Since she got it from a garage sale I would have to assume its was older then the 70's because who puts new stuff in a garage sale and marks it up that much... I have also looked around the internet and have seen 15 people state its from 1956 and one from 1955. So It may be fair to say there could have been reprints from the 70's but the Old stapled books are probably from the 50's.
ReplyDeleteI have this set and it is also from Red Farm. I purchased it new for $3.00 probably in the 70's.I started to work in 1968 so I would not have had money to buy such things before then. I would guess middle 70's would be about right. In the inside are 6 separate card stocked illustrations which I attempted to color years ago. It very well could have been a reproduction. Inside the box it has a card which lists the original selling price as $18.00. I know I would never have paid that much for the boxed set. I have no idea where I purchased the illustrated book and maybe it was placed on sale at the time.
